To our Vancouver Island Exhibition Community,

It is with the goal of supporting the health and safety of our community and all those involved in the Vancouver Island Exhibition and the current Covid-19 situation, that the VIEX executive and Board of Directors have spent countless hours discussing how to move forward in these unprecedented times.

In this time of social distancing and the banning of mass gatherings, it is clear that the 2020 VIEX is unable to proceed in the way we normally would and staying with this year’s theme of “Building our Future” it is with excitement we invite you all to attend this years “Vancouver Island Virtual Fair and Exhibition.”

It is the mission of the VIEX to:

-Present an annual agricultural exhibition and related events that encourages awareness and improvement of cultivation and creation of agriculture, livestock, horticulture, floriculture, home arts and hobbies, in our community.

-To educate the public and to encourage young people, especially 4-H clubs, to understand and appreciate the value and importance of agriculture in their communities and their everyday lives.

-To provide facilities for and promotion of entertainment and amusement of citizens of all ages.

-To help the entire community grow by including, promoting and improving the knowledge of various community groups, industrial, commercial, mechanical and household arts.

The Viex is a grassroots event and has been for 126 years that brings the community together and celebrates the history, the culture and unity for the benefit and overall wellness of the community. The VIEX celebrates community resiliency, innovation, creativity and fun during these extremely challenging times and the Board wants to ensure everyone in our community is safe and stays well.

Join us online, from the comfort of your own homes as we bring you as many elements of the VIEX as possible! This includes, but is not limited to:

-Live Virtual Concerts

-Home Arts Competitions

Hello fellow VIEX and Nanaimo community members.

It is with care and concern for all our families, friends, supporters, sponsors, vendors, volunteers and communities, that we feel the need to address the issues regarding the COVID-19 virus. Our directors, members and vendors are concerned citizens like you. Many of us work within the community in humanitarian or service sectors and wish to show our support and reassure our community that we are all hoping for better days ahead. Here at the VIEX our Association is taking these concerns seriously.

The City of Nanaimo and our provincial government has asked us all to be mindful of social distancing and emergency responses. In the last few days, measures have been discussed for the short and long term solutions available at the VIEX as they have been throughout the province and Canada.

The City of Nanaimo has announced and posted:  “As of March 16, 2020, the Provincial Health Officer issued a new order to cancel all gatherings of 50 or more people until further notice”

During this difficult time health and safety of our guests and staff is our primary concern. Over the many years VIEX has and will continue to work diligently with authorities to protect the safety of our patrons and will continue to do so.

In the spirt of optimism, the VIEX will continue to plan for the August 21st to 23rd, 2020 weekend, however until further notice standard annual fundraising events will not be held, and meetings will follow the gathering and social distancing measures announced by our city. We are hopeful families will be able to again enjoy public events such as ours in the coming months, but we will continue to monitor the public situation. We have faced challenges in the past and know that together we can provide a safe and celebratory environment for August 2020 providing government officials have deemed the event safe and lifted restrictions. Should restrictions continue to stand, we as a board, will advise our patrons and vendors closer to our event dates.

Our board wishes health and safety to you all, and ask that you abide by our governments recommendations. Please treat each other with care and concern in the coming weeks.

Sincerely VIEX Executive and Directors

Moist Celebrate ‘Silver’ Anniversary’

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of their breakthrough debut album, Silver, Moist singer David Usher, guitarist Mark Makoway, and keyboardist Kevin Young will reunite with bassist Jeff Pearce to tour together as a unit for the first time since 2013.

In addition to summer festival appearances, Moist will also perform Silver in its entirety (as well as favourites from their 25-plus year career) at select venues across Canada.

In recognition of this milestone anniversary Moist and Universal Music Canada will release a double vinyl LP and CD 25th anniversary package, which will include a re-mastered version of Silver, rare tracks and photos from the band’s early days, as well as personal reflections on Moist’s time in the studio and on tour from the band members themselves.
